A Message from the New Livestock Crew
We have volunteered to take on this task this year and may continue to do so ONLY if we get enough help.We need volunteers to help this year with barn set-up, checking in animals Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday morning. We also need people to work various shifts at the livestock table in the show ring. Please remember this show is depends on volunteers!

General Livestock & Show Rules — 2007

Livestock Division General Rules (Sheep and Goats):

General Livestock Rules and specific show rules apply to all exhibitors. Please see specific breed show information for other rules that may apply.

The Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival (OFFF) is not responsible for damage or loss while on the fairgrounds.
-
Livestock sales are by private treaty.

All decisions of the judge and/or OFFF are final.
-
NO DOGS or other pets are allowed on the fairgrounds, with the exception of assist dogs.

IMPORTANT: All animals brought to the fairgrounds must be placed in pens. Fairgrounds management does not allow livestock to be housed in trailers.

All vehicles, including trailers, must have an OFFF Livestock Pass visible while on the fairgrounds. Two passes, one for the vehicle and one for a trailer, will be included with the entry confirmation.

Entries - All entries must be postmarked by September 1, 2007. Use the entry form in this catalog (photocopies are acceptable). Entries will be accepted in the postmark order, as space permits.

- Ribbons 1st - 5th place in all classes; rosettes to champions
- Cash prizes are awarded as donated
- Special this Year: The Morris Culver Memorial Best Fleece Award
- OFFF Diamond Award Trophy and $100 cash award to the Supreme Grand Champions

Arrival - Livestock will be received during the following hours:

Friday, Sept. 21, 7:30 am – 8:00 am (workshop attendees only)

Friday, Sept. 21, 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Saturday, Sept. 22, 7:00 am – 9:00 am
-
All animals must be in place by 9:00 am, Saturday, Sept. 22.

Release - Sunday, Sept. 23 - As a courtesy to Festival visitors, both show and exhibit animals, must remain until Sunday closing at 4:00 pm. Any and all exceptions must be cleared with the OFFF Livestock Coordinator.

Health and Safety - OFFF shall not insure, nor be responsible for the safety, show, exhibit or sale of livestock or the person(s) tending them.

Health Inspection - All animals crossing state lines must have health certificates that meet the Oregon Department of Agriculture regulations. No animals will be unloaded until
inspected and checked in by an OFFF Check-in Team member.
No Exceptions! All animals must be sound, healthy and free of external parasites. The OFFF reserves the right to require removal of any animal deemed unhealthy. Sheep and goats must have the required ID to be compliant with the USDA Scrapie Eradication Program. For more information, visit the USDA Veterinary Services website:

Pen Cards - Pen cards will be available at the Livestock Barn Information Table. Pen cards must be posted for each animal. Please clearly identify your farm and animals that are "For Sale" and "NFS" (not for sale).

Water and Feed - Exhibitors are responsible and must provide water buckets and feed for their animals. See the entry form in this catalog for bedding straw purchase.

Exhibit or Sale Only Animals - Animals entered for exhibit or sale only (not entered in a show) will be accepted, as space permits. OFFF reserves the right to limit the number of animals brought for exhibit/sale by an individual.

Pen Space - Exhibitors must use only assigned pens. Every effort will be made to give exhibitors the number of pens requested, but space is limited. Tack pens may be shared by several exhibitors. Aisles must be kept clear. Feed and equipment must be stored in trailers or assigned tack areas.

Each show/division must have a minimum of 5 exhibitors and 20 animals.Any single breed meeting this requirement will be assigned its own show. Those that fail to meet the requirement will be in the combined show.

Animals will be judged 60% on fleece/fiber and 40% on conformation.

Fiber
length should be appropriate to show the quality of the fleece/fiber for
each specific breed.

Goats: 3+ inches
-
Fine wool sheep breeds: 1-½+ inches
-
Medium wool sheep breeds: 2+ inches
-
Long wool sheep breeds = 3+ inches (belly shearing is not allowed)

Goats shown in all divisions, except White and Colored Angora Goats (Division VI and VII), must be shown on a lead.

Age restriction on goats: Bucks must be under 9 months of age. Even young bucks can be heavily perfumed in the fall. Please use good judgment and leave extra smelly bucks at home.

Breed registration is NOT required for entry in general OFFF shows. Breed sponsored shows that require registered animals will be noted in the class
list information.

Any exhibitor or visitor who interferes with a judge during a show will be immediately ejected from the Festival.

Livestock Judges

Sharon Chestnutt - Angora, Pygora & Other Fiber Goats
Sharon graduated fro UBC with her degree in Animal Science and then began her work as a caretaker of 400 registered Angora goats. Later she added natural colored Angoras to her own herd. Sharon completed the Texas A&M Mohair School to become an Angora judge. She is also a sanctioned judge with the Pygora Breeders Association. She has taught workshops on goats and fiber at fiber events such as Black Sheep Gathering, Big Sky Fiber Arts Festival, & Estes Park Fiber Festival. Sharon was instrumental in establishing the Colored Angora Goat Registry and standards, 4-H Angora and Pygora programs. Sharon is an avid dyer, spinner and knitter from Monroe, Oregon.
Martin Dally - White and Colored Sheep Shows
Martin is a third-generation sheepman. He earned an advanced degree in genetics from Oregon State University. Martin is recently retired from the Department of Animal Science, University of California, where he conducted research in the areas of animal behavior, breed evaluation and AI. He is presently raising sheep near Scio, Oregon and continues as the owner of Super Sire Limited, a company that imports sheep semen from around the world.
Kris McGuire - Cashmere Goats
Kris traveled to Australia in 1989 to learn from agricultural experts the exacting skills required to grow top quality cashmere. Kris has been active in the American cashmere industry as a past editor and publisher of "Concerning Cashmere" and "The Cashmere Producers of America" newsletter. She is the founder of Cashmere Wyoming, a progeny testing and group breeding program at the Univ. of Wyoming. She has shared her expertise in Mongolia and Jamaica. Kris received her training through the CaPrA program. She lives in Virginia Dale. Colorado.
Doug Montgomery - Classic Sheep Shows
Doug has been raising Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep at bide-a-wee farm near Newberg, Oregon for the past 10 years. He is a Registration Inspector for the Jacob Sheep Breeders Association and is a graduate of the late Glen Eidman's Wool Judging School. Doug and his wife, Karen Lobb, actively show their sheep throughout the northwest and are strong believers in the importance and value of the Classic sheep breeds.
