Raw Fiber Competition WinnerThe Fiber Division Goal is to recognize and appreciate the unique qualities and characteristics of various natural fibers and encourage the artistic and craft disciplines that utilize these fibers. To promote this goal, sponsors have donated special awards to encourage entries of sponsored breeds in the Raw Fiber, Hand-spun and Fiber Creations Competitions.

The OFFF 2007 featured animal breed is the llama, and the featured art discipline is basket weaving.

Awards:

  • Ribbons: 1st through 5th place in the Fiber Creations and Skein Competition. Raw Fiber Competition uses the Danish system of judging and entries receive a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or no award.
     
  • Rosettes to Champion, Reserve Champion, Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion
     
  • Diamond Award Trophy and $100 cash to Raw Fiber Competition, Skein Competition & Fiber Creations Competition winners
     
  • Cash prizes are awarded as donated
    • Portland Handweaver's Guild for 'Best Handwoven'

Important Note!    Micron Testing!

Courtesy of the American Sheep Industry Association and Bob Padula, all entries in the Raw Fiber competition will be micron tested. Entry fees will be slightly higher to cover the equipment transportation fees.

 
 
Fiber Division General Rules

Entry Dates, Times and Fees

  1. Entry forms must be postmarked by Sept. 6, 2007. Late entry forms will be accepted at the Festival (space permitting) prior to noon, Friday, Sept. 21, 2007.
     
  2. Mailed entries must be received by Sept. 15, 2007 (but postmarked after August 5, 2007). Entrants are responsible for all shipping costs including return postage. Mail Fiber Division entries and checks Payable to:

  3. Delivered entries must be brought to the Festival (Main Pavilion upstairs) on:
    - Thursday, Sept. 20 - 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
    - Friday, Sept. 21 - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Judging for all Sections
  1. OFFF reserves the right to reject any entry that is not appropriate for exhibit. Judges may change entries to the appropriate category. Judges may "re-group" items, if there are insufficient items in a category or may create categories, if there are sufficient entries.
     
  2. Judging begins Friday, Sept. 21, 2007 at 3:15 pm. The fiber judging area will be closed during judging.
     
  3. Results of the judging will be posted at the Festival and on the OFFF web site.

Public Viewing and Sales
  1. The Fiber Division displays and show results will be open to the public Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11:00 am to Sunday, Sept. 23 at 4:00 pm.
     
  2. The Fiber Division Sales will commence Saturday, Sept. 22 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Sunday, Sept. 23 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

  3. OFFF will handle all sales and retain a 10% commission. If you do not wish to sell an entry, mark 'NFS' on the entry form.
     
  4. If you want to sell but not show your raw fleece(s) in the competition, note that on your entry form. Entry fees still apply.
     
  5. Please price items to the nearest dollar. Your check will be mailed separately in "Wrap-up packets."  
     
  6. All Skein and Fiber Creation entries must remain on display until 4:00 pm Sunday, Sept. 23. Skein and Fiber Creation entries may be purchased during the Festival but cannot be removed before 3:00 pm on Sunday. OFFF will not be responsible for mailing these purchases. Buyer and seller must arrange for picking up or mailing after the Festival.
     
  7. FIBER CREATIONS GALLERY PURCHASES - All other fiber sale items may be purchased at any time, but cannot be taken from the Festival display until 3:00 pm Sunday. OFFF will not be responsible for mailing these purchases. Buyer and seller must make arrangements for picking up or mailing after the Festival.
  1. FLEECE PURCHASES - Fleeces, except those on the winner's table, may be purchased and taken immediately. Fleeces on the winner's table may be purchased but cannot be removed before 3:00 pm on Sunday. OFFF will mail these fleeces to the purchaser if necessary— and postage must be pre-paid by purchaser. 

Entry Pick-up  

  1. All unsold entries must remain on display until Sunday, Sept. 23, 4:00 pm, except sold items as noted.
     
  2. All unsold entries be removed from the fairgrounds by Sunday, Sept. 23, 7:00 pm, unless prior arrangements are made with Pat Copa.
     
  3. Entries will only be released with the voucher received at check-in or sales receipt.
     
  4. Unclaimed entries become the property of OFFF on Sunday, Sept. 24, after 7:00 pm.
