Logo Design Contest
Attention Artists - Festival 2011 Logo Design Wanted
We need a T-shirt/catalog design for the 2011 Festival. Diamonds are the Festival symbol. Our featured animal will be Gotland Sheep and the featured handcraft will be spindle spinning. It's nice if the logo can incorporate the features, but it's not mandatory.
If we use your logo, you will receive $100 and a by-line in the 2012 catalog.
Contest Guidelines
- Illustrations must be simple enough to reproduce in black and white (catalog) and color (apparel).
- Submissions must be your original art and not previously published.
- Participants will need to sign a release authorizing OFFF to use the illustration in the catalog and on promotional items.
- OFFF reserves the right to crop the original artwork.
- Illustrations will be accepted October 1, 2010 through Feburary 1, 2011.

Junior Spinning Contest
When: Saturday, Sept. 25 ~ Noon
Location: Central Lawn
Entry: Pre-registration appreciated, but not required.
No Fee
This competition is for all young people who are considered beginner spinners (spinning less than one year), and who are 13-years-old or younger. Accomplished spinners under 13 years of age will not be allowed to participate in this event. Both wheel and spindle spinners are welcome.
- The contestant must bring a spinning wheel or spindle.
- Carded wool will be provided.
- Contestants will spin for 15 minutes.
- The resulting yarn will be skeined and then entered in the category of the contestant's choice.
- Class 1: Most even yarn
- Class 2: Fattest yarn
- Class 3: Lumpiest yarn
- Class 4: Skinniest yarn
- Class 5: Longest yarn (all yarn for this class will be measured)
Awards: Ribbons awarded through 5th place in each class
Note: 11:30 - noon (right before the competition) judging criteria will be reviewed to provide information that will help contestants place their finished skeins in the right category and to warm up their spinning wheels or spindles.
Spinners' Triathlon
When: Sunday, Sept. 26 ~ 2 pm
Where: Center Lawn
Entry: Pre-registration is preferred but not required.
Fee: No Entry Fee - All ages welcome
This is a three-part competition:
- Competition 1: Spin for 2 minutes
- Competition 2: Spin for 2 minutes wearing rubber gloves (gloves provided)
- Competition 3: Spin for 2 minutes blindfolded (blindfold provided)
In each competition, points are awarded based on the length of the yarn.
(1st - 25 pts; 2nd - 20 pts; 3rd - 15 pts; 4th - 10 pts; 5th - 5 pts)
After completing all three competitions, the contestants will be placed according to their total accumulated points.
Contestants must supply a spinning wheel or spindle.
Contestants must complete all three competitions.
Awards: Prizes and ribbons awarded through 5th place.
Strategic Spinning
When: Sunday, Sept. 26 ~ 12 Noon
Where: Center Lawn
Entry: Pre-registration is preferred but not required.
Fee: No Entry Fee - All ages welcome
In this competition, spinners have to determine the best weight to spin the given fiber, spin all the fiber within the hour and produce the maximum yardage.
Each contestant must supply a spinning wheel or spindle.
- Spinners are given one ounce of mystery fiber.
- Spinners must spin ALL fibers within one hour.
- Contestants not finished within the allotted time are disqualified.
- Winner is determined by the maximum yardage from the given fiber.
Awards: Prizes and ribbons awarded through 5th place.
Team Spinning
When: Sunday, Sept. 26 ~ 1:30 pm
Where: Center Lawn
Entry: Pre-registration is preferred but not required.
Fee: No Entry Fee - All ages welcome
In this competition, the goal is to be the first one over the finish line!
Each team must supply a spinning wheel.
- One person treadles.
- Another person stands and drafts-pulling backward. (The yarn does not wind on.)
- The winning team is the first one to cross the finish line 50 feet away.
Awards: Prizes and ribbons awarded through 5th place.
Photo Exhibit/Contest
Help make a beautiful and interesting Gallery of photography.
When: Photos accepted Friday, Sept. 25 from 1-6 pm
Where: Main Pavilion, upstairs at the Photo Gallery Check-in Desk.
Entry: Pre-registration is preferred but not required.
Fee: No Entry Fee
All classes (listed below) will be judged Saturday morning upstairs in the Main Pavilion. Photos are judged on composition and quality.
- Class A - Color
- Class B - Black & White
- Class C - Computer Enhanced
Contest Guidelines
- Photo must have been taken by the entrant within the last year.
- Photo must be a fiber producing animal, plant or animal.
- Minimum print size of 5"x7".
- All photos must be framed or mounted on poster board. Photos must be ready to hang with wire or hook. Entries will not be accepted without some means of hanging.
- Name, address and phone number must be written on the back of all entries.
- Competition is open to all except professional photographers.
- Entries will be accepted on Friday, Sept. 24th from 1-6 pm, Main Pavilion, upstairs at the Photo Gallery Check-in Desk.
- Mailed entries must be postmarked by Sept. 13, 2010. Return postage is required.
- Entries will be judged at 8pm Friday. Judging will be based on composition and quality.
- All photos not claimed by 6pm Sunday become Festival property.
Awards/Prizes: Ribbons awarded through 3rd place and prizes in each category.
Our Mission is to exhibit and demonstrate the full spectrum of natural fibers (plant and animal), from beginning to end.
That is, from the animal or raw fiber to the finished product.
